Thank you to all those who have ordered, we’re delighted this has turned out to be our most popular offer on Etsy. We’ve added a fiber laser to our business so can now engrave most metals and some plastics.

We operate a CNC Router machine that can cut Aluminium and other non-ferrous metals, Wood, Plastic parts for custom projects, fast prototyping or short production runs.

For those unfamiliar with this, a CNC Router is like a high-speed drill that can move around the material to be cut using computers, it is in effect a robot.

And while we do our best to make our service affordable, the quote we give is a result of material and time, so it’s important we explain how we calculate for these jobs, based on the following:

𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 – The cost is based on the length of time to cut the part, which may mean smaller detailed parts with many curves or corners may take longer to cut than larger basic parts with fewer details.

𝗖𝗡𝗖 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 – Complicated parts that may involve different cutting functions and changes to the machine can involve more costs.

𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 – To make the CNC work, we need a CAD drawing, if you do not have a design for your part, just a sketch, we can create one. The time required to create your design will also have an effect on the cost.

𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – For those who do supply CNC-ready CAD, there will be some adjustments needed to add this to our machine, if this is more involved than anticipated, this may have an impact on the cost.

𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 – Materials vary greatly in cost, availability, as well as how easy or difficult they are to cut. Easy quick jobs with readily available cheap materials have a lower cost than complex parts or those cut from an expensive sheet or a less common material.

𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲 – Custom parts incur most of the costs upfront, therefore quantity and volume of your order effects the cost of each individual part.

𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 – Orders are added in turn to our production schedule and we do our best to turn them around quickly, urgent orders may incur additional costs.

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Whilst our machine creates parts to a high degree of accuracy, they are not ‘precision parts’. Parts that require a higher level of precision can be done but may take several goes before the desired accuracy is achieved, adding more to any cost.
